Merits & Demerits of Higher Education

As we all know Education is an important part of every individual’s life. It opens up opportunities in the way of employment, equality, health, and wealth, among other things. The United Nations and most countries recognize it as a fundamental humanI right. In other words, every child has a right to education and it is compulsory up to a certain age.

Now, what does it really mean? Education is the process of learning or understanding the technical things around us. And there are different ways of facilitating it. This includes formal schooling, traditional tradition, storytelling, theatre, discussions, group activity learning, and directed research. Usually, a child starts their formal training with kindergarten and then they move up to primary, secondary, and then higher studies. Education helps an individual hone their personality. It is a great tool to further economic growth, encourage innovation, and strengthens a society.

Let us briefly look at the advantages and disadvantages of the concept of education below.

Advantages of Education

Secured life:

The economic development of a country is raised through human capital which is only possible through education. Education makes a person well-standardized and makes him well secured in life. Thus, all people in a country can raise the economic status only if they are well educated. Through this tool, more talented human resources are obtained with higher efficiency. So, learning should be started from a smaller age slowly, to make the children understand in depth.

Vast outlook:

This is among the main advantages of education. Each person has their unique thoughts. When they get educated, their thought is expanded to a greater perspective and it leads to the invention of unbelievable things. Also, the difference between good and bad activities can be set apart easily. This helps the country free from all violent activities.

  • Field of Interest:

Education is not about learning one thing entirely. But has various branches that can be chosen according to our interests. This helps a person to excel in his field of interest. Also the non-academic like music and art etc. is important. Hence, it helps the people to gain more confidence and helps interaction among others easily.

  • Future life:

The jobs are allocated for the people according to the knowledge they possess. Education ensures us with a secure and stable life. The basic necessity for a human being can be fulfilled by having an educational experience.

  • Equality:

Education clears out the thought of inequality. It makes the people to be friendly to others. Uneducated people see differences in family background, religion, etc. But this eventually does not matter when we educate ourselves and others around us. And that ultimately, we are all in the same place and have the same goals in life.

Disadvantages of Education

  • Discrimination:

Education makes one of the way for discrimination. The people who has more degree or experience have thoughts that they are ahead of everyone. And also the marks or grade system will create a difference from smaller age in the children. So, it should be thought of as the subject matter and not as a competition.

  • Restriction of personal thoughts:

Education makes people some facts to be blindly accepted, which makes people restrict their own ideas in the process of learning. Education should make us think bigger and smarter but bad educational knowledge might fail to do so.

But as we can clearly see that education has only a few disadvantages which can also be overcome at one stage. People should start taking the educational process seriously and make themselves well possessed with knowledge.
